On the way to work I was thinking about what I call the ‘Mortality Complex’, or more accurately the ‘Immortality Falsehood’ – that we all have when we’re young – that we’re immortal.. it’s not until either death comes too close (a relative or friend) or we age and see our approaching mortality that we realize that there’s just an inkling of a possibility that we might not live forever. There’s been some things that I’ve wanted to do, so I’m making my list of stuff to do ‘Some Day’ and also a list of things to read ‘Some Day’. So as I think of them I’ll put them up here.
The Cold & Clouds Have Come Back To Haunt Me.
So, no blogging for a while.. I’ve been busy with work and family stuff. My mom has been visiting from Canuckistani for a while and we’ve been hanging out and doing family stuff. I’ve also been watching Season one of ‘House’ – my new guilty pleasure. It’s really amazing – I like characters that have virtually no redeeming characteristics.
Dreamin..
I think I need to start with a ‘Dreams’ Category. I had a dream last night and thought of it on the way to work, then remembered again on the way home from lunch.
I’m in my living room with my wife and a friend of ours, Matt. Suddenly there’s a shout from outside and I look out the window. Matt’s wife and daughter are in the front seat of a car, and it looks like a 60’s mustang or something, a faded orange color, and as I look out there, I see a bit of fire kind of erupt and then be gone from onder the back of the hood. I yell ‘Fire’ and jump into action. I run immediately to the kitchen, where I know there’s a fire extinguisher under the sink. I also distinctly remember feeling partially panic’ed and still keeping it under control, being able to push it down enough to perform efficiently. I run out to the car with the extinguisher, and Matt is right next to me. Matt goes right to the passenger side and starts trying to get his wife & daughter out while I start dousing the flames that are trying to come through the dashboard through the drivers window. We both succeed and I move around to the front of the car and try to douse the flames in the engine compartment and I realize that it’s no longer a mustang-like sports car, but is instead an old white ford pickup truck, and there’s no hood. Flames still abound however, and I start spraying them down methodically, and I realize that Matt is there too with the hose, helping out. Just as the extinguisher starts to sputter we manage to get all the flames out, and I awake.
Weekend
So there’s been lots going on. My mom has come to visit for a couple weeks and that’s cool. We went to see The Lion King musical last saturday for my wife’s birthday, and it was awesome! Friday night we went to see Corteo which was, as BNL says: A, M and Azing (like thelonious monk). THEN to top it all off, I went to WonderCon which was great too. I was mostly hunting for bits and pieces to fill in some runs but I did score one biggie off my list of “Comics To Get Someday” where “Someday” = “No Time Soon Because They’re Too Expensive.” – Daredevil 158, first Frank Miller art on DD. I also got some X-Men in the 100-200 range and I’m getting closer to finishing that whole run (about 60% done) and I’m only a couple issues shy of having Grant Morrison’s whole run on New X-Men too!
The only thing that I found super-surprising was that in the far back corner there were a couple of booths that featured porn stars. Like.. Playboy’s Miss September, 1982. How far do you have to be living in the past to make your living selling 23 year old pictures of yourself.
Other cool costumes: Full Sized Alien (From Alien, Aliens, etc.), Zatanna, 5’6 Boba Fett, Porn Star (although she might not have been in costume…). Ghostbuster, Storm Trooper
Bad Costumes: Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Cyclops, Random Anime.
Well, Peace out Y’all.

Wow.
So last night Kelly brings in a piece of paper and hands it to me, while telling a story. Yesterday they went to Chevy’s and while she was talking to my mom, Caitlin interrupts and tells them: “I wrote hamburger!” and shows her coloring page, which has the letters “H-E-M-B-G-R” laboriously printed on it. I was so excited, impressed and amazed. Wow.
