All I have to do…

is dream.. I had this weird dream two nights ago.. and I don’t dream too much.. I was in a car with another blogger, and we were going to a rave, somewhere out in the country.. and we get pulled over by a cop who starts looking through his trunk, which makes him promptly start to freak out completely.. and he tells me that he left a bunch of Ecstasy in his trunk.. but then the cop closes the trunk and wanders off..

and that’s all I have to say about that!

Happenings… more and more

So an interesting thing happened to me on the way to a new Job.

My friend Rick was down as one of my references, and when he was called by Packeteer, he gave HR his resume.

He got called for an interview, went in and had a job offer, all last week. He starts before I do. It’s a small world :)

Ramblings..

Well I’m on the train again, and lo and behold I have my laptop. I don’t have a muse today, however, so who knows what, if anything of interest might come out of today’s ride. I’ve also managed to remember to phish MacStumbler out of my ‘long unused app directory’ in order to find what placed en route offer free wireless. Right across the street from Baypointe station is SS8 Networks, and they offer a free WAP, as well as University of Phoenix, on the corner of Tasman that also has an unencrypted link. I also read recently about the city of Dayton creating a full wireless network covering all of downtown and thought “Damn, that’s a fine idea.”

I have also been thinking a lot about what I’m going to be doing at my new company, what kind of interesting things I’m going to be doing and what will be involved. I want to have started thinking about their problem before I arrive, as I gather that there will be a small ramp up time and a lot of work to do very quickly. Not that I would expect any differently, but I already have some time planned for vacation that I am going to take, and I don’t want to be caught unawares.

I am really looking forward to starting my new job but I will freely admit that there were/are some scary thoughts. It’s always tough to go into a new environment, get to know new people, come up to speed on their new projects, learn their technologies and the like.

So much going on….

And I’ve meant to write a dozen times but of course, haven’t. Here’s the down-low, the info, the 4-1-1:

I found a new job. I’m really excited about it, It’s at a company called Packeteer, Inc and I’ll be designing and implementing their new NMS client. The past few weeks have been a little crazy, My wife is planning a trip home in May, we have a ton of stuff coming up, and I had one call, from one company, that turned into one interview and one offer. No shopping around, nothing. And the company looks really cool, I met most of the team already, and it’s a small team, a cool product and they’re really flexible. Whew.

So you had to kill in your first week?

So I call my sister Trish (as seen below) and ask her for the down-low on her first week as a cop. Now, bear in mind that she is stationed at a small detachment, 10 people, in a series of small towns in the Alberta mountains. She’s had traffic stops and a B&E. Hasn’t had to use her handcuffs yet, but has had occasion to shoot and kill, all in her first week. Admittedly, she had to shoot and kill a deer that had been struck by a car, but none the less, an interesting first week. Apparently having to put down injured animals happens with a reasonable frequency, and Trish did well by only needing a single shot (as opposed to a story related by another member, whose first time required SEVEN shots, and a third, who, after watching the second make her attempt, took the riot shotgun out for the task, thinking the service pistols inadequate for the job.) Ahh life, she is interesting, no?
