Yard Sale

I’m sitting in my driveway (thank you for wireless!) and watching people drive by, drive by and look, stop, blocking our driveway, look. look. drive away. one guy stopped and checked out some stuff then bought something for a dollar and left. I took all the computer crap I’ve had stuck in my garage for years and put it in $1-$2, $5 and $0.25 lots. Cables, crap, mice, crap. if it wasn’t for my laptop I’d go nutz!

Back Off Man, I’m a Mountie.

My sister is in the ‘streaming’ process to join the RCMP, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. (You didn’t know I am Canadian?) A lot of people have misconceptions about the RCMP, not the least of which is that they are all Mounted Police. I don’t know how something like that gets perpetuated. The RCMP is to Canada what the FBI is to the US, a national, federal Police force. (We have CSIS which is roughly equivalent to the US’s NSA, and no equivalent to the CIA because we mostly keep our noses out of foreign governments ;)

Anyways, back to my sister. She’s been working for Canadian Customs since she was in university (part time) and now that she’s out she’s working full time. She’s been attending their training camp in Quebec for the last 12 weeks or so, and today is her big final exam, practical portion. I think she’ll do really well.

Like I said before, she’s in the ‘streaming’ bit of the RCMP intake, so she’s done all her applications and entrance requirements, doctors exams, etc etc and is now waiting to be called into their training program to actually start. I can’t wait to have her on my side! I can get her to run background checks, threaten people with some ‘heat’ and get off scott-free from all my evil, premeditated Jaywalking! BWAHAHAH!

Sorry, Lack of Coff-ay this morning is making me less lucid than usual.

Wait, you can play games *WITHOUT* a computer?

I read this post over at some geeky chick’s blog that talked about gaming offline. I love games, games of almost all kinds, RPG’s, Card games, board games, mind games, fruit games, hand games. Love them. I used to play with my wife all the time, (Before kids ;) and now not as much, but we had a rare hour free, and headed over to Oakridge to check out their game store Legends. Cool. They had a whole rack of Cheapass Games and I picked up some of the Friedley’s series, a copy of Unexploded Cow, and a few others that piqued the interest of my wife or I. Then of course we went home and fell asleep, games still in the bags.

I also have a super craving to play 1000 Blank White Cards but haven’t had the time or people yet. Mmmmm.

More thoughts on a second child

There are some things that are the same when having a second child as a first, like having to get up in the middle of the night, the inevitable snarliness that accompanies the lack of sleep. There are a lot of differences too… with Caitlin we seemed to be very tentative about everything. When we changed her diaper, we slowly lifted the diaper off her, gently raised her whole bottom and placed the diaper positionally under her, pull it snugly over the legs, carefully tape the diaper down perfectly. With Christian it’s pop the diaper off, heel-kick it into the pail. Grab the legs like a turkey and slap the diaper under, pull the tape up and over, and you’re in and out in 12 seconds. I’m back to work tomorrow and not looking forward to it at all. Kelly’s mom is here for a couple weeks to help, and it’s awesome, she came when Caitlin was born too and it’s a big, big help. Later…

Sleep Deprived

Well, Kelly came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, and Christian did as well, and we’re through the first night. I got a couple hours of sleep, scattered in patches, but this will be a long weekend, I’m sure. I also got into a mild spat with my dad, who thinks that “Christian” is not a masculine enough name. I basically told him two things: 1) – You named your kids what you wanted, I’ll do the same. and 2) I’m glad that you think that ‘Christ-like’ reflects ‘wuss’ to you. Maybe you should go see The Passion Of The Christ. I love my Dad a lot, but sometimes.. *shakes head*. Well, I have a lot on my plate today… cat naps, taking Caitlin to the park, making lunch, working on my Comic Collection Manager Software, mailing out some Mix CD’s to my sisters. I do more before 8am than most people do before 8:30!
