Painting

I’m having our bedroom painted while Kelly & the kids are outtatown, and the first night I slept in caitlin’s bed, and let me tell you.. a twin bunkbed = not a good sleep. So last night I decided to risk the paint fumes and sleep in my own bed anyways.. so everything smells a bit chemical today. and my nose burns a bit, but the room looks great. I need to put everything back in the room tonight and clean.. I’ve been ‘single tom’ for a couple weeks now, and I’m re-realizing that I’m a huge slob. I have 3 baskets of clean, 2 of dirty laundry and stuff EVERYWHERE! you can barely walk, in any room of my house. I think that FF:X has something to do with it, since I’ve been trying to get through it before they get home. OK I’m off to drink some chemical coff-ay.

Working with my hands

I’ve been working on a carpentry project for the last week, something cool for my wife. I can remember even as a little kid watching my dad build stuff. Smelling fresh cut pine, and covering my ears when the circular saw bit into a 2×4.

Working on this project has made me realize how much I love working with my hands, doing physical work. It feels good, and when I stand back and look at the results, the gleaming finish, I feel really good, a lot better than when I leave the office, that’s for sure.

I think that too often, I have dismissed physical labour as being something less than mental exertion (such as a white collar job.) And it’s only now that I begin to see what an appeal it really has.

Pics soon to follow, when I finally get it done.

Rollins

I’ve been listening to Henry Rollins a lot lately.. his spoken word stuff, and I’ve been really trying to find out why I’m so entranced with it.. and today he said something and it immediately hit me why: he goes out there armed with the truth. No script, nothing but the desire to speak honestly and truthfully and tell it like it is. It’s amazingly refreshing to hear him speak about everything. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s definately educational and interesting.

FP=???

I did remember what FP stands for, and since I had another encounter yesterday, I figured that I should write about it.

FP stands for Famous People.

One of the cool things about living in California, is that Famous People live here. Everyone knows it! Ask anyone from outside CA where Famous People live, and they’ll tell you: California. I mean, We have actors as mayors, an actor as governor, they are everywhere. Here are some of the Famous People I have sighted since moving to california, with a reliability scale of 1-5, with 1= saw from a distance, bad light, might be mistaken, to 5 – saw in close proximity, 100% sure of the ID.

Sarah Ferguson (1) – (dutchess of york) walking down Bascom avenue, near Valley Med.
The Guy who played George’s father on Seinfeld (2) – driving a 1989 saturn on Central Expressway.
John Ritter (1) (pre death) – walking in a parking lot.
Jeri Ryan (4) – getting a latte in starbucks on San Tomas (near saratoga)
Owen Nolan (5) – at Home Depot, trying to keep his daughter from eating some washers.

Have you seen famous people too? (And at a press event or publicity event doesn’t count.. it has to be a place where you didn’t expect to see them.)

Who Are You?

My friend Aaron calls me up saturday and asks if I wanted to go see The Who. THE FRICKIN WHO! How awesome is that? Let me tell you: PRETTY DAMN AWESOME. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been too. Great set. No nonsense. Pete Townshend is just amazing. Un. Freaking. Believable. No, really.

The rest of my weekend was a downer after that.
