World Cup!

Ok a dream from last night! I was playing in the World Cup! Except that it wasn’t soccer, it was roller hockey, being played in some school gymnasium with a wood floor, and all the stuff was decrepit – the nets had to be duct taped together and to the floor so they wouldn’t fall over. The other team was Italy, by the way, and the refs were horrible. In the first two minutes, I had two goals, the first one was so fast that it hit the back of the net and ricochetd out and the ref didn’t even see it. The second one was so hard that it went through a hole in the back of the net and the ref missed it too! finally I got a goal – then another. then my teammate had a goal that went under the net and didn’t get caught. Then a teammate scored, and another. then I got m third goal, and realized we were up 5-0 in the first few minutes of the game. Realizing that it was a blowout, I voluntarily took myself out of the game so Italy wouldn’t look really horrible on the world stage.

I KNOW! It would have been really mean and bad for Canada-Italy relations if I had stayed in the game… I would have ended up winning the ‘Golden Puck’ award and humiliating Italy…. then what would Canada do when they needed to import some fusilli? Geez.

Plus I probably got a kickback from the UN.

First Day: Prelude

OK So I just woke up and I had dreams all night about being late for my first day. I had two really distinct dreams about it. In the first, I had 2 things that were supposed to happen at 8:30 this morning. The first I can’t remember and the second was my Apple Orientation. In the dream, I went to my OLD job instead, and around 10:30AM someone pointed out that I should have been at apple and I freak out, tear myself out of the room and the dream ends.

The second was much more vivid. In this one I had 2 things as well scheduled at 8:30: Apple and a press preview of Clerks 2. (The preview somehow was only 45 minutes, meaning I could get to apple by 9:30.) Of course in this dream I go to the movies, then over to apple. The guard/receptionist tells me that since I’m late on my first day, they will probably suspend me for a year – not letting me start at Apple for 12 months. Gak. Then the dream-head of apple security comes and gets me. (Played in my dream by the woman who plays the nurse ‘Lavergne’ in TV’s ‘Scrubs’!?!) She takes me on a tour of the campus and then into a small conference room where she shows me a big chart of all the different groups inside of Apple and starts telling me that since I was late, they intend to punish me by giving me a different job than I was hired for – something in another department or division, and I’ll have to work there until I’m allowed to transfer back to my original hired position.

Dreamin..

I think I need to start with a ‘Dreams’ Category. I had a dream last night and thought of it on the way to work, then remembered again on the way home from lunch.

I’m in my living room with my wife and a friend of ours, Matt. Suddenly there’s a shout from outside and I look out the window. Matt’s wife and daughter are in the front seat of a car, and it looks like a 60’s mustang or something, a faded orange color, and as I look out there, I see a bit of fire kind of erupt and then be gone from onder the back of the hood. I yell ‘Fire’ and jump into action. I run immediately to the kitchen, where I know there’s a fire extinguisher under the sink. I also distinctly remember feeling partially panic’ed and still keeping it under control, being able to push it down enough to perform efficiently. I run out to the car with the extinguisher, and Matt is right next to me. Matt goes right to the passenger side and starts trying to get his wife & daughter out while I start dousing the flames that are trying to come through the dashboard through the drivers window. We both succeed and I move around to the front of the car and try to douse the flames in the engine compartment and I realize that it’s no longer a mustang-like sports car, but is instead an old white ford pickup truck, and there’s no hood. Flames still abound however, and I start spraying them down methodically, and I realize that Matt is there too with the hose, helping out. Just as the extinguisher starts to sputter we manage to get all the flames out, and I awake.

Dreamin..

OK another dream last night. It’s weird, I can’t remember every dreaming before a couple years ago.. anyways..

I’m in a kind of spaced out montage, where I’m in my body, but also observing myself from a 3rd person perspective at the same time, and I’m moving a little off.. like time has been sped up for what I’m doing, but my 3rd person perspective isn’t sped up, so I’m watching myself zoom around and do different things, and then a jump, like a movie edit and I’m doing something else.. all in the course of a day.. and there’s an interesting thing.. with me in every scene is my friend Jon.

Then the last bit of the dream is me leaving work and trying to find the right subway train to take home, and I keep ending up on the platform or in the hallway for the ‘Yellow Line’ train, and I know that’s not the right one, but I don’t know how to get to the right one. Then I see, across one hallway, Jon again, reading a book on one of those moving sidewalk dealios. I see the sign above him, pointing in the direction he’s moving, and it reads ‘Green Line’. “Aha!” I think. The green line train is the one I need. So I run across and jump on the walkway. When I finally arrive at the platform, I walk down one little way and in the next one over I see a couple of people, whom I don’t know handcuffed to the railing along the wall, and (in the way that things can only make sense in a dream), I know that the traffic cops have taken to just cuffing offenders there and collecting them at the end of their shift. I also see Jon and his wife crouched next to one of the handcuffed people, ministering to her. Talking to her, offering her water. I didn’t go over to them, or call out, or make my presence known, I just kept on my little walkway towards the train and watched them get further away, with a distinct knowledge that it was I that was moving, and not them.

Then…. awake.

Dreams pt N

Another dream from last night… I’m in a house, and I’m… guarding, I suppose. My dog Willy is with me, and someone is in hiding upstairs. Someone is outside, and it’s pitch black. I feel around for a baseball bat that I know is nearby. I find it, and creep to the front door, which I pull open, and realize that the alarm system should have chirped, but it doesn’t. I go down the front stairs and suddenly it is bright. I look to the full moon and it appears to be fading in and out, although not from clouds or any reason I can find. I look back to the side of the house, and a man comes around, carrying a red plastic container and some piece of metal. He spots me and takes off. I chase him for half a block or so, then he stops and holds up the piece of metal, keeping me at bay. I try to hit him with the bat, but can’t make contact with anything but the metal. Then I realize that the red plastic container is a a gas can, as he starts to coat himself with gas. I redouble my efforts to hit away the piece of metal or even the can, now with the intent to save, not to injure. He drops the gas can and after one last swipe, the metal piece, as he reaches into his pocket for matches. I swipe desperately at his hand, and hit the matches out of his hand with a crunch, as he falls to the driveway of the suburban house we’re silently struggling in front of. Then he looks up at me and smiles, and from his other hand, he shows me a single match that he reaches down to the driveway to strike. I turn to run and see the miniscule spark of the match flaring, followed by an incendiary heat and shock wave as the gas can explodes and he is covered in flame…. and I awake.
