Poetry & Sadness

Today has already been a jumble of emotions.. I got the paper and took the light rail, and the only thing in the paper that woke me out of my daily daze was this. It shook me, for sure. Just the idea of a 2 month old dying.

I’m really stuck at work, less motivation than usual (which is to say: none.) Much less sleep than I’m used to. No spare time. Caffeine and the fierce beatings my wife gives me when I fall asleep at the dinner table is all that keeps me upright right now.

So to leave off, some poetry to (hopefully) brighten your day…

*break*

OK it’s like 4 hours later, I went to find some poetry and didn’t.

Doug Wilson

So I go to Pizza Chicago today for lunch, meet up with my friend Michael, and as we’re finishing our lunch, who do I see, but Doug Wilson! First Captain and current GM of the San Jose Sharks! I whisper to my friend “Hey! That’s DOUG WILSON!” He looks at me and says: “Who?”.

Ok. I’m a hockey geek, and I love it. I shouted out “Hey Doug! Good luck tonight!” And he came over and made some small talk with us for a few minutes. w00t!

Morning Ritual

I have like a morning ritual when I get into my cube.. I set up my laptop, check my e-mail and run through my ‘morning list’ of websites. I’m sure that most people have a list of stuff that they do like this too. I thought it would be interesting to see what other people include in their morning list. Anyways, here’s mine:

Yard Sale

I’m sitting in my driveway (thank you for wireless!) and watching people drive by, drive by and look, stop, blocking our driveway, look. look. drive away. one guy stopped and checked out some stuff then bought something for a dollar and left. I took all the computer crap I’ve had stuck in my garage for years and put it in $1-$2, $5 and $0.25 lots. Cables, crap, mice, crap. if it wasn’t for my laptop I’d go nutz!

Back Off Man, I’m a Mountie.

My sister is in the ‘streaming’ process to join the RCMP, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. (You didn’t know I am Canadian?) A lot of people have misconceptions about the RCMP, not the least of which is that they are all Mounted Police. I don’t know how something like that gets perpetuated. The RCMP is to Canada what the FBI is to the US, a national, federal Police force. (We have CSIS which is roughly equivalent to the US’s NSA, and no equivalent to the CIA because we mostly keep our noses out of foreign governments ;)

Anyways, back to my sister. She’s been working for Canadian Customs since she was in university (part time) and now that she’s out she’s working full time. She’s been attending their training camp in Quebec for the last 12 weeks or so, and today is her big final exam, practical portion. I think she’ll do really well.

Like I said before, she’s in the ‘streaming’ bit of the RCMP intake, so she’s done all her applications and entrance requirements, doctors exams, etc etc and is now waiting to be called into their training program to actually start. I can’t wait to have her on my side! I can get her to run background checks, threaten people with some ‘heat’ and get off scott-free from all my evil, premeditated Jaywalking! BWAHAHAH!

Sorry, Lack of Coff-ay this morning is making me less lucid than usual.
