And all was right with the world

It’s midafternoon, and I’m lying on the couch, quietly pondering and pleasantly drifting sleepily through the late afternoon rain sounds outside. The TV is quietly playing A Christmas Story as my wife and daughter snooze in turkey-induced slumber. The light is fading outside, the inside is warm and cozy, with the remnants of this morning’s flurry of present openings scattered on the floor and chairs and for at least one day, all is right with my world.

Sharks and Cyber culture

I went to the sharks game last night with Kelly and Caitlin, it’s so cool to see how excited she gets there. She yells at the players “NO! STOP!” when they hit each other :) I also went to Recycle Books and picked up *3* new books about cyber culture. I’m reading the first one right now. It’s about the late 80’s hacker group called ‘Masters Of Deception’ – MOD for those who were around at the time. It’s reasonably interesting, but more from a human interest standpoint than a cultural or anthropological one.

Earthquake

Ooo, just had a really really good earthquake. According to the reports it’s about 120 miles away, and was a 6.5 (For reference, the Oakland Loma Prieta quake in ’89 was a 6.9). Our whole building (in north sunnyvale) was shaking, not enough for stuff to fall, but enough to throw your balance off a tiny bit when walking. A whole bunch of us thought we were suddenly dizzy. One newcomer jumped up and was like ‘DO WE NEED TO EXIT THE BUILDING’, and most of us were prarie-dogging saying ‘Nah, wait till you hear cracking or clanking. Then run.

Thoughts..

Hmm, I just realized this is my 100th entry. Wow. Anyways. I’m trying to do a design for a new blog. I did a rough outline here but there’s something about it that’s not right, and I don’t know what… :( Hmmm
