I just need to say how much I’m despising Autoboxing in Java 1.5. I first thought that it was a great feature, but the more I have to track down the niggling little bugs that it’s causing in a huge intricate system, the more I hate it. PLEASE, PLEASE give me a way to ‘turn it off’ when I compile.
H. O. T.
The A/C is broken in my part of the building and I’m melting. it’s in the 80’s in my office right now. Ack. I also finished writing my Best Man speech for my friend’s wedding. I won’t post it until later, but if you’re interested, let me know and I’ll show it to you.
Also, our church had it’s final day yesterday. It was sad, and hot.
First Day: Prelude
OK So I just woke up and I had dreams all night about being late for my first day. I had two really distinct dreams about it. In the first, I had 2 things that were supposed to happen at 8:30 this morning. The first I can’t remember and the second was my Apple Orientation. In the dream, I went to my OLD job instead, and around 10:30AM someone pointed out that I should have been at apple and I freak out, tear myself out of the room and the dream ends.
The second was much more vivid. In this one I had 2 things as well scheduled at 8:30: Apple and a press preview of Clerks 2. (The preview somehow was only 45 minutes, meaning I could get to apple by 9:30.) Of course in this dream I go to the movies, then over to apple. The guard/receptionist tells me that since I’m late on my first day, they will probably suspend me for a year – not letting me start at Apple for 12 months. Gak. Then the dream-head of apple security comes and gets me. (Played in my dream by the woman who plays the nurse ‘Lavergne’ in TV’s ‘Scrubs’!?!) She takes me on a tour of the campus and then into a small conference room where she shows me a big chart of all the different groups inside of Apple and starts telling me that since I was late, they intend to punish me by giving me a different job than I was hired for – something in another department or division, and I’ll have to work there until I’m allowed to transfer back to my original hired position.
He invested in a fruit company, or something.
So it’s official. 2 weeks from today will be my last day at packeteer, and starting bright and early after memorial day at a shiny new fruit company.

New and Mindless things
So a couple things – first, things have been super-busy (this is starting to be a trend…) and I haven’t really had time to do much of anything. Second – things haven’t been great at work, but mum’s the word for now. Hopefully things will get better soon, but we’ll see. Third – someone found my blog by searching for it specifically on google – the referring search was “tom byrne blog” – so someone is looking for me. I’m wondering who. Lastly… Buzz & Elkit – we might be able to have lunch soon @ your cafeteria. If you catch my drift.

That is why I try to not place my full name anywhere. Though as hard as I might try others can’t be stopped from unmasking me.
Employers are now googling potential candidates. Scary.
