Childhood rememberances.

I’ll admit that I’ve had a *bit* too much rum this evening, and that’s probably why I’m thinking of these things.

I have a very vivid memory of when I was around 10 or 11 years old – I was living in Tillsonburg, Ontario, and I loved spending time in the library. I spent most of the summer between 5th and 6th Grade reading. The things I remember most were reading basically the whole Hardy Boys series (after a friend of the family bought me the 2nd book in the series, I was hooked – Thanks Miriam ) ) and also most of the Tom Swift Jr Series – I remember thinking that the concept of Spaceship X was amazing. Travelling across the stars and meeting aliens was an amazing thought when you’re 10 or 11 years old – as well as solving mysteries…. the only two others books that I distinctly remember was a book about different kinds of racing cars – and one called The Frog, or The Toad that had very darkly tinted windows, and an explanation about how the tinted windows working, and a book about different movie monsters, like Frankenstein and The Blob, and old movies about them.

Ahh, good times.

Surreality

So if someone is delusional or something, do they spend their lives wandering through surreality? is that a word? Damn, I hope so.

Anyways, I had two really surreal experiences this weekend:

About 3 weeks ago I had gone in with Kelly and the fam to get our Passports, but we couldn’t find my birth cert, proving once again, that I was a man without a country. So they put my application on hold. Anyways, while moving stuff around this weekend, we found it, and I went in on monday to get mine finished. Afterwards, I was leaving the office and I was struck by a really spacey feeling, and a voice in the back of my head, saying something like this:

“Why do you need a PASSPORT? That’s for GROWN-UPS! You’re never going anywhere! And if you do, your PARENTS will take you! You’re acting awfully GROWN UP! You’re just a KID! And you’re acting like an ADULT! In about 2 minutes all those adults are going to point at you and someone is going to get you in TROUBLE! You better get on your bike and ride home!”

And the second time was just this morning – I was walking over to Caffe Mac for lunch, and as I came out of IL6 into the quad, I was suddenly struck by ‘fan-boy’ type moment.. like “OMG! This is Apple! And you’re walking around! Where the Mac comes from! Someone’s going to catch you, and you’re gonna get in TROUBLE!”

Then I realized that I *actually* worked there.

Just to add to the whole surrealness of that ‘fan-boy’ moment, the building you walked through, IL6 is where most of the Mac hardware guys work. So maybe you were picking up on some sort of “this is where a Mac begins its life,” vibe in that building.

New and Mindless things

So a couple things – first, things have been super-busy (this is starting to be a trend…) and I haven’t really had time to do much of anything. Second – things haven’t been great at work, but mum’s the word for now. Hopefully things will get better soon, but we’ll see. Third – someone found my blog by searching for it specifically on google – the referring search was “tom byrne blog” – so someone is looking for me. I’m wondering who. Lastly… Buzz & Elkit – we might be able to have lunch soon @ your cafeteria. If you catch my drift.

That is why I try to not place my full name anywhere. Though as hard as I might try others can’t be stopped from unmasking me.
Employers are now googling potential candidates. Scary.

Current Goings On

it’s 9ish, and I’m watching House.. I pulled an almost all nighter last night at work to get caught back up with the actual coding i’m doing. I have been so caught up in doing planning, design, tracking down wacky issues, etc etc.

I’m pretty tired after not sleeping so much and there’s been so much stuff going on. Work, home, church, and personal stuff. sometimes I feel really overwhelmed.. like I’m almost incapable of holding it all together.

My hockey team won our championship game, but honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I thought… the other team took a ton of penalties and basically beat themselves.

I keep thinking I have something to say, but as it turns out… I don’t.
